Bank of Ireland has launched a new savings account with a 1.5% rate for the first 12 months and a €100 discount on home or car insurance.

Nationwide BS is set to increase the rates on all its variable accounts this Monday. While most of its rates will be increased by 0.25 percentage points, some existing customers will receive a maximum boost of 0.35 percentage points.

Some regular savings accounts are paying interest rates as high as 6.17 percent.

Earlier this week HSBC reintroduced a £200 cash incentive for customers switching from an existing current account to an HSBC Advance or Premier Bank Account.

HSBCs new savings interest rates will reflect their tenth rise in just over a year.
