Kochi (Kerala) [India], February 15 (ANI): Kerala High Court on Monday stayed the move of the State government to regularise 1,850 employees, who are working on a temporary or on contract basis in the Kerala Bank.
The court took the decision while hearing a plea submitted by Lijith A, a Kannur native.
Kerala government s counsel informed the court that there was no decision taken by the government to regularise the employees.
The petitioner pointed out that, Public Service Commission (PSC) has the power to make appointments in Kerala Bank from the posts of Chief Executive to Peon. If the application had been invited through PSC, he/she would be eligible to apply for various posts. Those who are loyal to the ruling party are appointed on a temporary basis.

Protest against ‘backroom appointments’
The Kerala Cabinet which met on Monday morning decided not to take a decision on demands of rank holders in the priority list drawn up by the State Public Service Commission (PSC) for government jobs and engaged in protests against alleged ‘backdoor appointments’ to ‘cronies’ of the ruling dispensation.
The alternating LDF and UDF governments have variously been accused of regularisation of temporary workers during their rule to keep a formidable vote bank in the government cadre in good humour. With Assembly elections nearing, the state has witnessed hundreds of such regularisations in various departments and corporations with most beneficiaries allegedly having links with the ruling CPI(M).

SLAMABAD: In what seems to be a major recovery drive, the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Ltd (ZTBL) regularized the appeals of about 5,000 tractor defaulters to pay their late installments to avoid confiscation of tractors. At the moment, the number of outstanding financed tractors is 28,424 across the country.
The bank, under the instructions of President ZTBL Muhammad Shahbaz Jameel, has launched a campaign against the defaulters who habitually do not pay installments of their loans. The drive against repossession of tractors from August till date has resulted in confiscation of about 5,000 tractors in different zones. “The repossession of tractors does not mean that we deprive farmers of the machinery, rather it is meant to make the farmer pay the outstanding defaulted amount and get tractors back,” Asadullah Habib, Executive Vice President Recovery ZTBL, said.
