Hyderabad: Slamming the Centre for ‘lesser’ allocation of Remdesivir to Telangana, health minister Etela Rajender on Thursday said the state has to be given preference as it is home to many manufacturers of the anti-viral drug.
Speaking to reporters, Rajender said the Central government has allotted only a little over 21,000 from April 21-30 as against the state’s expectation of four lakh.

As anti-viral remdesivir flew off the shelves across several states, an India Today investigation found several touts and pharmaceutical vendors black-marketing the drug six times its official price.
The injectable drug has been repurposed for Covid-19 treatment and was cleared by the country s top drug regulator for restricted emergency use in June 2020 on patients with severe complications.

Shahdol: At least six COVID-19 patients died in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol due to low pressure in medical oxygen supply, an official said on Sunday.
The incident took place at the Government Medical College Hospital in Shahdol on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Though the government is trying to reduce the price of the drug, its shortage is making it expensive.

ADILABAD/ HYDERABAD: There is a shortage of
Remdesivir drug in Adilabad district. As a result, patients are travelling to neighbouring districts and purchasing them in black for Rs 16,000 per vial, as the drug is only available in black.There is also lack of coordination between the RIMS’ staff and the district medical and health officials, due to which Covid patients are suffering. In fact, District Collector Rahul Raj is unable to give adequate time to handle Covid.
