Municipal utilities to participate in solar project Community Content Mansfield Municipal Electric Department recently announced that the publicly-owned utility is participating in a new solar project to be built in Ludlow. MMED will purchase approximately 0.5 megawatt from the 7 megawatt project being constructed on the property of MMED’s joint action agency, the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company. MMED is one of six municipal utility members of MMWEC participating in the project. The others are located in Boylston, Ipswich, Marblehead, Peabody and Wakefield. The ground-mounted solar project will be built on a 30-acre section of MMWEC’s 200-acre property in Ludlow. The site is well suited for solar. After receiving responses to its request for proposals, MMWEC is working with EDF Renewables Distributed Solutions Inc., as the project developer.
