911 dispatchers in Texas are seeking first responder designation through House Bill 1486, which would also provide mental health leave. Representative Stan Gerdes of House District 17 introduced the bill to recognize the importance of these telecommunication officers who are often the first point of contact during emergencies.

The Texas Film Commission will honor the city with a certificate at a City Council meeting on Mar. 6.
