A day of action was held to protest the GTA West Corridor (Highway 413) and the Holland Marsh Highway (Bradford Bypass) on Saturday, July 24. Protests were held across the regions that would be impacted by these highways. They took place in Caledon, King-Vaughan, Simcoe, Brampton, Mississauga, and Oakville and photos spread all over social media with the hashtags #NoMoreHighways, #Stopthe413, and #StoptheBradfordBypass. Environmental Defence a Canadian environmental advocacy organization has been a key cog in organizing protests to inform residents of the impact of the impending situation. Their concerns are that, if built, the highways would pave over farms, forests, wetlands, and a portion of the Greenbelt and cost taxpayers

Caledon calls on Province for public consultations on Highway 413 plan

March 4, 2021   ·   0 Comments By ALYSSA PARKHILL Initiative Reporter After hearing from the community regarding the GTA West Corridor, the Town of Caledon is hopping on board to gain more understanding on the proposed highway and the impacts it will have on the Town.  During a February 16 meeting, local resident and environmentalist Jennifer Leforestier delegated to Council encouraging lawmakers to reverse their support for the proposed 400-series highway. Council originally showed their support in 2018 claiming it has been a priority for several years. “My requests are that Council reverse support and endorsement for Highway 413,” said Leforestier at the session last month, “[and] officially request the Federal government to conduct an environmental impact assessment of the proposed highway.”

File photo by Alex Tétreault The Ontario Liberal, NDP and Green parties vowed Tuesday to reverse the Progressive Conservative government’s weakening of conservation authorities if one of them wins the next election. The government passed a bill weakening the powers of conservation authorities ⁠ agencies that oversee watersheds and development that happens nearby ⁠ in December amid widespread backlash. If elected, the opposition parties said they would also revoke permits for projects approved under the more lenient rules, without giving compensation to developers.
