Cinemas across East Anglia are set to benefit in just over £1million of government grant funding.
Independent cinemas in Suffolk, Norfolk and north Essex will receive £1,013,258 from the government s Culture Recovery Fund and more grants are expected to be awarded in the new year.
Among the biggest recipients in East Anglia are the Abbeygate Cinema in Bury St Edmunds which received £314,969. The Majestic Cinema in King s Lynn received £104,826, while the Century Cinema in Clacton-on-Sea received £126,458.
The Regal Cinema in Stowmarket – which is currently undergoing renovations and is showing films in the nearby John Peel Centre – received £82,595.

The U.K. government has announced that it will be extending the country’s insurance scheme for film and television until April 2021.
The decision was made after the entertainment industry in the region suffered huge losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Variety reported. The initiative, which is known as the Film and TV Production Restart Scheme, comprises a £500 million ($676 million) fund to assure that production houses and projects will receive financial assistance in case of COVID-related losses.

The Odyssey Cinema in St Albans will be receiving £120,377 and Reel Cinema in Borehamwood will be awarded £9,997. 202 cinemas in England have received funding so far from a £30 million pot allocated by the British Film Institute (BFI), on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. More grant applications from independent cinemas are also currently being assessed.

The Red Carpet Cinema in Barton-under-Needwood has been awarded the money by the Government Culture Recovery Fund.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said he hoped the funding would help protect the industry across the UK.
“The magic of film is such an important part of the festive period and this investment will help protect our independent cinemas so they’re around for many Christmases to come.
“Alongside it, the extension of the Film and TV Production Restart Scheme means the UK will be producing even more great content as the cinema industry recovers, keeping us at the forefront of the creative industries.”

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden announced the grants from the Government s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund for arts organisations. A total of £16 million has been allocated by the British Film Institute, on behalf of the DCMS, to 202 independent cinemas in England, including The Light Cinema in Bradford and Ilkley Cinema. More applications are being assessed and cinemas will be able to apply for another £14 million in grants in the new year as part of the second round of the Culture Recovery Fund.
