support in ukraine s de facto war in independence, has been critical. we heard how the white house visit was dangled. david holmes testified how that was critical to president zelens zelensky, to demonstrate to putin that he had u.s. backing. that is interesting just because this wasn t just a social visit. it wasn t just zelensky liked trump or loved his behind. they weren t just sipping tea. this was an important, strategic visit. absolutely. we know that donald trump requested investigations of his political rivals. david holmes told us about the famous or infamous restaurant conversation. i heard it through the cell phone. president trump asked, he s going to do the investigation? and gordon sondland said that happened. and donald trump. the july 25th transcript, where donald trump says to zelensky, i want you to find out what happens with this situation with ukraine. and donald trump explicitly
the ukrainians that you re much more likely to get something done if you move on this announcement and you go investigate the bidens. but let me just say, anderson, the think the bigger point about this week i mean it is a pivotal week is up until now, the white house has very successfully blocked our view from the oval office. we ve got the telephone call, but beyond that they ve very carefully concealed go to that famous howard baker question from watergate. what did the president know, and when did he know it? i think this week we re going to get some answers to that, and particularly the testimony about this restaurant conversation with the president, which allegedly the president said, what s happening in the investigations? are they going to do our work for us? he told that to our ambassador with these other guys sitting there. so i think this week could be really major in taking this case inside the oval office. every scandal around the white house, the question always is,
to go to the famous howard baker question from watergate what did the president know and when did he know it? i think this week we re going to get some answers to that, particularly the testimony about the phone the restaurant conversation with the president which allegedly the president said, what s happened to the investigations? are they going to do our work for us to his ambassador with these other guys sitting there and the question whether the president was directing it. i think that s this week could be really major in taking this case inside the oval office. in every scandal around the white house the question always is, did the president, was the president involved? did it get to the oval office? if it didn t get to the oval office it doesn t seem like such a big deal. if the president himself was personally engaged it s a big deal. yeah. we ought to look at the evidence and the holmes testimony just came out. he said he heard the president say, what about the investig
half-dozen times. we know about one of those conversations which was the famous restaurant conversation over wine on july 26th the day after july 25th phone call, and it seems to be going to take us into the oval office and i think brett mentioned before no one is quite sure what he s going to say because he has amended his testimony once and it looks like he will have to amend it again because he didn t even mention the committee that july 25th phone call. so he is kind of a loose cannon here and no one is quite sure where he is going to fire. and he could be either very damaging to the president or he could be very damaging to the democrats case that the president did anything wrong. but he is going to be able to say specifically what he discussed with the president and to the degree to which the president conditioned aid to ukraine, a meeting with president zelensky on these political investigations. so that is the key witness
juror. that just does not exist. those 100 senators will be the jury. what are your top questions for this week? i have about a thousand. don t we all. first of all, will more surprise witnesses emerge. any time an investigation is on going you never know what twists and turns. last week we saw the new revelation about david holmes who observed the restaurant conversation between trump and sondland. number two, will sondland testify about that conversation in the restaurant with trump. and finally will kurt volker become the white house s star witness. they ve said, listen to kurt volker. he says no quid pro quo. but there are some things in his testimony that are really damaging for donald trump and the white house. i think it s a big risk to put too much stock on him. thank you for helping us.
