Trafford Town Hall TRAFFORD Council has spent over £65 million in ’emergency decisions’ made since the start of the Covid pandemic. Soon after the pandemic hit and the country went into lockdown in March 2020, the authority granted itself emergency powers in a move approved by all parties at a full council meeting last year. The aim was to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy that slowed decision making down, at a time when fast reactions and quick policy-making were essential. The powers were initially drawn into the council’s constitution to allow temporary emergency decision-making powers for a period of 12 months. The plan enabled important meetings and decisions to be made by the Labour administration behind closed doors, with regular calls made to the leaders of all other political parties to keep people informed and get their agreement.

Councillor Chris Boden, the leader of Fenland District Council and portfolio holder for finance. - Credit: Archant Businesses across Fenland affected by the Covid-19 pandemic  should check if they can apply for a range of support schemes.  Since the first lockdown last year, Fenland District Council (FDC) has distributed more than £24 million in funding and made over 2,500 payments to businesses.  Over £3 million has been paid to businesses since the December restrictions were enforced, and the council is now urging firms to apply before closing time.  The grant schemes available in Fenland are:  - Closed Businesses Lockdown Payment (CBLP) – a one-off grant payment of either £4,000, £6,000 or £9,000 is available to businesses forced to close in line with national restrictions which came into force on January 5, 2021.

More than £37m paid out to businesses affected by Covid-19 pandemic in Carlisle so far

Carlisle City Council has processed thousands of grants paid out to businesses across the district since the Covid-19 pandemic began. These grants, paid out to businesses that have been affected by the disruption brought about by Covid-19, are financed by central Government but applications are handled by the city council. The council is continuing to make payments to businesses affected by the pandemic, including the new top-up grants that were announced earlier this month.

Support package for Northumberland businesses closed by coronavirus now available

BUSINESSES in Northumberland which have been forced to close due to coronavirus restrictions can access a new package of support. Northumberland County Council will contact eligible businesses via email, and once brief details have been confirmed payments covering a six-week period will be made. The business support package for the lockdown from 5 January onwards includes two elements: Local Restrictions Support Grant (Closed) Addendum: 5 January – 15 February; and A one-off Closed Business Lockdown Payment. If applicable, payment for the five days from 31 December to 4 January, to cover Tier 4 restrictions, will also be included. The amounts payable will be dependent on the rateable value of the business.
