Network Norfolk : The Light shines on in the darkness

Opinion Column The Light shines on in the darkness As we move through Easter week, Andy Bryant reflects on the miracle of Christ’s resurrection and reminds us of the hope that it brings. None of it makes any sense.  A stone rolled out of place.  The body disappeared, a cloth neatly folded and rumours of angels.  What has actually happened is so far beyond their expectation, and then when He stands there in front of her, Mary simply does not recognise Him.  Although she has seen Him almost every day for the last three years, she knows He has died so, whatever the apparent similarity, it cannot, of course, be Him.

Network Norfolk : Think about others rather than getting the needle

Opinion Column Think about others rather than getting the needle With vaccinations providing a way to help end the Covid-19 pandemic, Rev Andy Bryant addresses those who are not so sure about having the jab and asks them to consider other people as well as themselves. I am not sure I should even be writing about this.  I do not want to give them any more attention than they have already won for themselves.  The truth is that the anti-vax brigade is a small (and shrinking) number despite the noise they make.  Overwhelmingly most people are taking up the opportunity to be vaccinated against covid and truly thank God, it is already making a difference.

Network Norfolk : True salvation, or just a shot in the arm?

Opinion Column True salvation, or just a shot in the arm? Andy Bryant is looking forward to an easing of Covid restrictions, but believes that the Church will face many more challenges in the coming months and years. When the first lockdown began there was much talk about how this could be an important moment of change.  Many talked about a determination that when lockdown was lifted, we should not go back to our old ways.  We could seize this moment and build back different and build back better.   Twelve months later as we are still enduring our third lockdown and wondering when, and how, it will end, we just want our old lives back.  We want to be able to do all the things we used to do.  We fear too much has changed and not for the better.  Businesses, shops, cafés pubs, arts venues, charities all teetering on the brink.  Will anything of our old familiar lives remain?  The will to build back better is lost in the desire to just get back to something, anything

Network Norfolk : Merry Christmas – Or still stuck in Lent?

Opinion Column Andy Bryant reminds us that the first Christmas was also a time of great hardship. Christmas trees are glinting everywhere, out and about there is the soundtrack of Christmas songs and at church the preparations for the Christmas services are all in place.  But however hard I try I am still stuck in the middle of Lent.   Partly that is because the last time Church felt anything like normal, just before we were locked out of our church buildings, we were in the middle of Lent.  And despite all the best attempts of online offerings and the introduction of Covid safe in-person worship, I never really completed the Lenten journey through Holy Week, Good Friday and on to Easter Day.
