Wisconsin is highlighted in a new report that compiles federal data. In its latest "Safe for Swimming?" summary, the group Environment America notes 63% of beaches tested in the Great Lakes region last year had at least one day of fecal contamination that exceeded the EPA s Beach Action Value. .
So far this summer, Minnesota has seen a lot of hot days, which means many people are soaking up the sun on boats, and in the coming years, watercraft operators will have to comply with new safety requirements. This year, Minnesota legislators approved a phased-in program, calling on boat operators to complete a water safety course and written test before obtaining a permit.
