COLUMBIANA City council had several traffic issues to address Tuesday.
Councilman Richard McBane brought the traffic in town square to the attention of council, suggesting that it’s time to get the situation under control. McBane pointed to a lack of understanding how the square works, paying attention or adhering to the signs indicating the need to yield and give pedestrians the right of way.
Mayor Rick Noel agreed with McBane saying, “I think we’ve all witnessed it”
Suggestions made by council members included improved signage and increased surveillance.
Council members agreed that a properly designed square calms traffic. Another council member referred to the square as a “real nut house.”

NEW WATERFORD The regular staff and administrators at Crestview Schools each will receive a bonus to thank them for all their dedication while educating and providing assistance to students during the pandemic over the past year.
The board of education last week voted to provide each regularly employed bargaining member employee and each administrator with a $500 bonus with their April 30 pay. The board directed Treasurer Charlene Mercure to provide the bonuses from the general fund.
Board President Missy Wellman noted “with all the challenges this year has brought, it has not gone unnoticed by the board that the staff from all levels have dedicated themselves to the continued success of the district and most importantly to its students.”

NEW WATERFORD Crestview School District bus drivers are not only adjusting to minute-by-minute scheduling changes as the result of the pandemic, but they are also delivering hundreds of meals to the local community.
Transportation Supervisor Richard Burbick recently told the board of education that school bus drivers delivered more than 700 meals to the community through the district’s meal program. Other members of staff also helped.
“I would like to publicly thank my drivers for helping me with these ever-changing routes,” he said.
He added that while fuel prices have gone up by about 20 cents, bus drivers aren’t driving as much due to some students working from home so the district isn’t spending much more on fuel.
