It is my great honor to introduce someone who is a hero of mine, a friend of mine. When i first had the opportunity to meet her and most of the seven, eight years ago i told her the story of how my sister when she was in sixth grade played her in a biography in school where they had to pick somebody that they wanted to emulate and research in play for a day. My sister chose jane goodall. She is truly an inspirational voice for the teacher of our planet, and accomplished scientist, accomplished writer, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute which supports research as well as many other programs and research and education. Ive had the chance to visit their Education Programs in schools in massachusetts and in colorado called roots and shoots to bring kids closer to issues around the environment. Icier see that we have kids here today. She continues to travel and speak to save our planets. Over 300 days a year she speaks. In fact, the last time iran into her was changing planes in Heathrow
Illegal poaching could see these great species disappear from their african heartlands. My guest today is Richard Leakey, chairman of the Kenya Wildlife service. He also happens to be a World Famous Palaeontologist whose life story reads like an implausible movie script. The question is will his fight for africas endangered wildlife have a happy ending . Richard leakey, welcome to hardtalk. Thank you. You know, there is an adage, a saying which goes like this you should never go back. And yet you have decided to go back, to run and be the chairman of the Kenya Wildlife service so many years after you did thatjob in the late 80s. Why have you gone back . Well, i go by a different philosophy. If you do a job and you do it reasonably well, and it gets messed up, if you can go back and tidy it up again, why not . Imean, get it back to what you wanted. I think wildlife in kenya isnt in very good shape at the moment but i dont think it is Rocket Science to get it right. And when the presiden

Impeachment of clinton which was a fiasco, a couple Government Shutdowns. We are headed potentially for something thats so much worse than anything weve ever seen. The shutdown itself is a Little League baseball game compared to the world series of fiascos if they let this debt ceiling, if they tolerate it to fall. I all my reporting cant come up with an end game. I still think it wont happen and i think any kind of end game you come up with is only going to kick the can down the road on these other issues. But i think right now we are headed for a potential political and economic cataclysm unless serbia somebody gets wisner the next seven days. Rose chuck . Well, charlie, there was one thing the president did is he put himself out there supporting something that i know that both major and i have been hearing over the last couple of days which is the president will support anything boehner sends him that is quote unquote clean without any of those extraneous politicallycharged amendmen
