Consulate in turkey. at least one gunman opened fire near the compound. the consulate is closed while the incident is being investigated. joining me now from istanbul is nbc news chief foreign correspondent richland engel. what is the latest there? aiman there was a series of attacks across turkey today. bombings by kurdish gorillas. and a bombing at the police station here. this is normally a very safe city. and almost exactly at the same time that the bombing of the police station took place there was a shooting incident right in front of the u.s. consulate. [ gunshot ] nbc news obtained this video. it appears to show police confronting a woman they say had just approached the consulate with a gun. she s cornered in a crawl space.
