The Kirksville City Council got a look at the Kirksville Police Department’s five year strategic plan at a study session that was held on Monday, May 8. In an 18-page thesis, Chief Scott Williamson offered up five goals and objectives the department will strive for through 2028: Crime reduction; reduced traffic-related injuries and accidents; the development, strengthening and sustainability of partnerships; the development of personnel, increasing retention and the expansion of recruitment efforts; and the enhancement of infrastructure to meet current and future community needs.
The Kirksville City Council at their regular meeting held on April 17, approved an ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement between the city and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant for the construction of a paved multi-modal sidewalk in the right-of-way along the north side of Washington Street, from Osteopathy to Main Street, and establishing the mayor and city manager as authorized representatives for the city.
The Kirksville City Council, at its regular meeting on April 17, approved an ordinance granting a parking variance for a temporary rental at 816 S. Baltimore Street.
City Council members Rick Steele and Jennifer Walston were sworn into office at a special meeting of the Kirksville City Council held on April 10. Both Steele and Walston emerged victorious from the April 4 Municipal Election. Both were incumbent council members.
Kirksville Public Works Director Glenn Balliew was recognized with a resolution by the Kirksville City Council at their April 3 regular meeting. On April 14, Balliew is retiring from the city after almost 10 years of service.
