Karen Lee “Flash” Edwards, 75, of Mingo Junction, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 25, 2021 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North in Steubenville, OH.
She was born November 25, 1945 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late William H. and Dorothy M. (Matthews) Edwards, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William H. “Squeeks” Edwards, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Sternsher.
Karen received her Bachelors Degree from Mt. Union College and her Master Degree from Mary Grove College. Karen was an elementary school teacher for the Indian Creek School District, retiring in 2008 and she is currently still substitute teaching. During her teaching career she was in charge of the student senate; created a school newspaper “Hills Character Gazette”; and was also the head of character education at the school, this was very important to her as it was her way of segmenting church into school.

Rick Brozka and his wife, Vicki, look over one of the many sports-sponsorship photos on the walls of his business, Car Medic at 519 Canton Road, Wintersville, where Rick retired April 9 after 39 and one-half years there. Sorting and cleaning bring a mixed bag of emotions to the Wintersville native who has fixed what ails customersâ cars and trucks as part of a profession he has enjoyed.

What revs owner Rick Brozka’s engine now is retirement, the opportunity for him and his wife, Vicki, to have leisure time, travel opportunities and enjoyment as grandparents to Reid, 4, and Fiona, 9 months.

Decorated churches throughout the area, including Two Ridges Presbyterian Church at 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville, offer passersby a sight of hope and cheer this Christmas season. The Wintersville church sports a newly cleaned 1887 façade with the Christmas tree and nativity scene and spruce tree adorned with red and green flood lights.
