The island-state’s currency surged to an all-time high against the ringgit as the latter was weighed down by weaker exports and its widening rate differential with the United States.

Economist expects the local note to trade 4.75-4.77 against the dollar next week.

KUALA LUMPUR: With no sign of de-escalation in the Middle East conflict, the ringgit came under pressure to open lower against the US dollar on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia saw a follow through in selling pressure on Friday which took the benchmark index while the ringgit strengthened marginally against the US dollar.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit reversed its downtrend to end the week marginally higher against the US dollar, driven by positive macroeconomic data that provided support for the local currency, an economist said.

The currency dropped by 0.3% to 4.7625 per dollar, the weakest since 1998. It’s the worst performer in Asia this year after the yen.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit continued to weaken against the US dollar as the 10-year United States Treasury yield rose to 4.91 per cent -- the highest since 2007, suggesting that inflation premium is on the rise, said an analyst.
