KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended yesterday’s gains to open higher today against the greenback on renewed buying interest.

The ringgit closed higher versus the US dollar yesterday, extending Wednesday’s gains, after Bank Negara chose to keep the overnight policy rate (OPR) at 2.75%, putting an end to market speculation about the rate hike cycle.

MOST Asian currencies and equities were mixed on Friday, while the Malaysian ringgit and Thai baht edged higher, as market participants continued to weigh possible rate hikes by the U.S. Fed and global recessionary fears.
