KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened at a fresh all-time low against the US dollar on Monday as demand for the greenback strong due to its stature as a safe-haven currency, dealers said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended last week’s downtrend to close lower against the US dollar today, nearing the all-time low of 4.725 recorded on Jan 7, 1998 as sentiment in the local market was influenced by the robust greenback.

KUALA LUMPUR:  The ringgit depreciated to a fresh all-time low against the US dollar at the opening today, due to the higher-than-expected reading of the United States (US) Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, which signals that a significant increase in the US interest rate might be on its way, a dealer said. 

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar this morning amidst the higher-than-expected United States (US) Producer Price Index (PPI) data for September, which came in at 8.5 per cent versus 8.4 per cent forecast, said a dealer. 

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit continued its slide against the US dollar at the close today as the greenback stayed strong after the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes indicated that it remained committed to raising interest rates in order to bring down inflation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit slipped further against the US dollar at the close today in line with most Asian currencies, as the greenback continued to strengthen its appeal as a safe haven currency, an analyst said.

MOST Asian currencies weakened on Tuesday, battered by tepid risk sentiment as investors continued to exit regional bonds, while the Malaysian ringgit hit a fresh 24-year low after the country's parliament got dissolved.

With the Indonesian rupiah hit by recession concerns and the Malaysian ringgit slumped to a new 24-year low after the parliament was dissolved for snap elections - most Asian currencies weakened on Tuesday.

The ringgit is likely to trend weaker against the US dollar this week following the expected stronger United States Consumer Price Index (CPI) data release, said an analyst.
