A 44-year-old man who was pulled from a rip current Wednesday after trying to rescue his son off the coast of Salisbury, Massachusetts, has died, the Essex County District Attorney said.

A father trying to rescue his son from rip currents and two bystanders were rescued Wednesday off the northern Massachusetts coast, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

With waves on Saturday forecasted to be 13 to 16 feet, and winds anywhere from 30 to 35 mph, plenty of surfers said Friday would be their only opportunity to get out onto the water.

The teen was swept up in a rip current after falling off a blow-up raft, officials told news outlets.

As Hurricane Lee makes its northward turn, Tybee Island and Hilton Head Island beaches will see strong surf and rip currents.

Jacksonville Beach’s Ocean Rescue Division has issued a “Beach Safety Alert” that is in effect Wednesday through the weekend.
