An impressive group of local dignitaries showed up for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recently opened Nutmeg Fudge Company at 20 East Main St. Joining owner Kristy Barto in celebrating her new business were Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone, Rep Michelle Cook, Fire Chief Peter Towey, City Planner Martin Conner, Assistant Planner Jeremy Leifert, and Economic Development Director Rista Malanca.
Barto said, “It was a wonderful turnout and I was so happy to have those who helped me be recognized as well. It’s been an incredible learning experience getting here!”
Mayor Carbone, who described Barto as “innovative”, has tasted many of the fudge flavors, and declared the Mexican dark fudge and Butter Beer her favorites. In addition to 22 flavors of fudge, the shop offers chocolate truffles, molded chocolates, brittles and ice-cream. Shop hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Noon to 7p.m. on Sunday
