A new wildfire ignited around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Jefferson County. The Grandview Fire, as it was named, is burning southwest of Culver. As of Monday morning, the fire had grown to 2,000 acres, according to KTVZ in Bend. KTVZ reported a tall smoke plume was visible for many miles as the fire spread to the south and southwest. The fire was burning on Crooked River National Grassland and on lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue crews were called at 2:06 a.m. to 12292 SW Lords Place they found the two story log home fully involved in fire with fire spreading to a neighboring fence. A defensive fire attack was performed to protect exposures which included the neighbors fence, multiple vehicles, and a shop. Water tenders were used to supply water for fighting the fire. Multiple crews remained on-scene for several hours performing overhaul and mop-up.

There were no injuries reported as the occupants were able to self-evacuate from the residence. Firefighters were called to 14322 SW Buckhorn Place at 9:36 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from a single story residential home. “The initial arriving crew found heavy fire and smoke coming from the back side of the house and began a defensive fire attack,” a CRRFR news release stated. “As additional crews arrived firefighters transitioned to an offensive attack inside the home.” The fire took about 40 minutes to bring under control. Multiple crews remained on-scene for several hours performing salvage and overhaul. The home is considered a total loss with an estimated value of $189,000. A value has not been determined at this time for the contents of the structure.
