Approximately 4,200 PG&E customers in several Northern California counties and two Tribal communities may have energy cut off to their homes and businesses this week in an effort to limit the start and spread of wildfires, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

Thousands of Pacific Gas and Electric customers in eight Northern California counties may be impacted by a public safety power shutoff that could start Wednesday evening.

Dry winds forecasted for Wednesday into Thursday are expected to force Pacific Gas and Electric Company To shut off power to more than 4.200 of its customers in Northern California, with more than half of those residing in Shasta and Tehama counties.

The PSPS could start around 6 p.m. on Wednesday affecting approx. 4,200 customers in small portions of 8 counties and 2 tribal communities.

PG&E may shut off power for approximately 25,000 customers in California beginning early Monday.
