The Revere City Council’s Zoning Subcommittee voted by a 5-1 margin to approve the RiverFront Overlay District proposal that is part of the RiverFront Master Plan that will transform 20 acres of land in the Riverside/Point of Pines neighborhood into a brand new development.
Chair Patrick Keefe and Councilors Anthony Zambuto, Jessica Giannino Gerry Visconti, and Arthur Guinasso voted in favor of the proposal that included amendments by Keefe. Councilor Richard Serino voted against the proposal.
The Subcommittee was deadlocked at 3-3 at its last meeting on March 8, but Keefe and Visconti voted in the affirmative Monday.
The vote came at the end of a nearly two-hour meeting Monday during which some residents in the Point of Pines neighborhood spoke primarily in opposition of one key element of the plan which is apparently a 290-unit residence to be built on the G and J property. In an online meeting on Wednesday, March 10, at 6 p.m., the City will host the second part of the Riverfront Master Plan process, with a meeting in December unveiling three alternatives to creating a new roadway through the industrial areas to connect to the park and to spur higher and better uses.
Mayor Carlo DeMaria has been intensely interested in the process and said this was an area of the city that is going to be transformed in the next few years.
Mayor Brian Arrigo began his presentation at the Feb. 22 City Council meeting by expressing his gratitude to the development advisory group that “came up with” the RiverFront Master Plan.
Arrigo’s remarks came during a public hearing about amending the city’s zoning ordinances relative to the establishment of the Revere RiverFront Overlay District.
At its Feb. 9 meeting, the Planning Board unanimously approved the RiverFront Master Plan that will transform the 20 acres of properties on the Pines River bordering Lynn, with Gibson Park sitting squarely in the middle of the proposed development. One of the exciting portions of the project is the potential siting of a community boating center adjacent to Gibson Park.
City reflects on challenging, eventful 2020
The city of Newberg s annual Year in Review takes creative look at past year
Focusing primarily on the positives in a year that saw staff turnover, legal controversy and unprecedented challenges from a governing standpoint, the city of Newberg released its 2020 annual report on Feb. 19. The report was delivered alongside Mayor Rick Rogers state of the city address posted to various social media platforms.
Rogers also delivered the state of the city address online via the Newberg City Club s monthly forum. Every town and city, large and small in Oregon and throughout the world, can reflect on the year that was, Rogers wrote in a statement at the top of the report. In most of our lifetimes, there has not been a year quite like 2020. The challenges faced by our businesses, schools, churches and, yes, city government have been deep and profound.
