Growing up in the Philippines, merienda was one of my favorite Tagalog words. Not only do I associate it with delicious Filipino food but it also reminds me of idyllic moments of childhood where my parents and I would sit down in the afternoon with our own version of the banana split and just talk about life and everything in between.
