In 2020, police in Enoch, Utah, investigated allegations of child abuse and conducted a lethality assessment for Tausha Haight. Two years later, her husband, Michael Haight, murdered their family before turning the gun on himself.

The Haight case is a tragic reminder that even though lethality assessments are important tools, theyre not a cure-all for intimate partner violence.

This month, a Utah man murdered his wife, and their five children, and his mother-in-law, before killing himself. That’s sparked a conversation among Mormon women about power and safety in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Before Michael Haight fatally shot his entire Utah family, his wife, Tausha Haight, had filed for divorce.

Mason Ohms of Utah is facing up to 20 years in prison for hitting a 13-year-old boy, who was riding his bicycle, with his truck and driving away from the scene in April 2022.

Neighbors, not Enoch or Cedar City police, discovered the deceased Haight family on Jan. 4, 2023, after police say Michael Haight shot and killed his family.
