Last Updated: Shift In Bat Diversity: Climate Change May Have Played key Role In COVID-19 Pandemic Emergence of SARS-CoV-2 can be attributed to clearance of vegetation in past 100 years, and the migration of an additional 40 bat species due to climate change. Climate change could have had a "key role" in the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, a new study that analysed the Southeast Asia forests, known as "a global hotspot" for bat species revealed. The global spread of the deadly pathogen...

COVID Booster: climate change and bungling politicians Five things science learned about COVID last week. Did climate change help SARS-CoV-2? A new study published in the journal Science of the Total Environment has provided the first evidence of how climate change could have played a direct role in the emergence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus: global greenhouse gas emissions over the last century have made southern China a hotspot for bat-borne coronaviruses, by driving growth of bats’ preferred f...

A new study released on Friday tries to find a way to do just that, claiming that climate change “may have driven the emergence” of coronavirus. But it may be more complicated than it seems at first blush.

A team of researchers at the University of Cambridge have revealed that climate change could have played a direct role in the occurrence of the SARS-CoV-2 which has caused the deadly coronavirus pandemic. The study, which was published in the Science of the Total Environment journal has pointed out large-scale changes in the type of vegetation in southern Chinese province called Yunnan, and also in areas of Myanmar and Laos.

Updated / Friday, 5 Feb 2021 16:19 Researchers say the changing climate and habitat destruction have driven virus-carrying species into ever closer contact with humans Climate change may have played a "key role" in the transmission of the coronavirus to humans by driving several species of pathogen-carrying bats into closer contact, research shows. The virus, which has killed more than two million people and caused unprecedented global disruption, is thought to have originated in bats in south...

PARIS (AFP) - Climate change may have played a "key role" in the transmission of the coronavirus to humans by driving several species of pathogen-carrying bats into closer contact, research showed on Friday (Feb 5). The virus, which has killed more than 2.2 million people and caused unprecedented global disruption, is thought to have originated in bats in South-east Asia. Researchers from the University of Cambridge used temperature and rainfall data over the last 100 years to model populations...

Climate change may have played a role in Covid-19 pandemic – study 05/02/2021, 12:03 pm Global greenhouse gas emissions over the last century have made southern China a ‘hotspot’ for many bat species that host coronaviruses (Peter Byrne/PA) Climate change may have played a direct role in the emergence of Sars-CoV-2 – the virus responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic, a study has suggested. Global greenhouse gas emissions over the last century have made southern China a “hotspot” for ...

Published 5 February 2021 Global greenhouse gas emissions over the last century have made southern China a hotspot for bat-borne coronaviruses, by driving growth of forest habitat favored by bats. Science of the Total Environment provides the first evidence of a mechanism by which climate change could have played a direct role in the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic. The study has revealed large-scale changes in the type of vegetation in the southern Chine...
