"It's important for the museum, for our relationship, how we maintain forward motion," Rice-Allen said. "As the owners of the land, the keeper of the culture, it's wanting to make sure there is a level of communication and respect of the whole process."
“I am personally of the opinion that any remnant of a Black town that existed, if it’s preserved on a national level with federal funds or state or local levels, the preservation needs to happen,” said Angela Bates, who led the effort to get Black site Nicodemus, Kansas into the park system in the late 1990s.
