With the 13th annual Beginning of Summer Street Dance just days away, its planning was among the many topics covered at Tuesday s spring members meeting of the Youngstown Business and Professional Association at the Youngstown Yacht Club. Discussions included updates on musket use at Old Fort Niagara; tributes to long-time Youngstown businesses; a new village audio project being promoted by Niagara County Legislator Irene Myers; and July s Porter on the Lake Summerfest.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, along with Old Fort Niagara Association, on Friday revealed a new roof on the iconic French Castle, one of the oldest buildings on the Great Lakes.
From the May 27, 1933 Telegram: "The fire was discovered at 11 p.m. and it is believed that it started a full hour before it was noticed. Villagers were helpless to combat the flames when discovered because the fire had too much of a start."
