LONDON: A woman who was stripped of her British citizenship after travelling to Syria as a teenager to marry an Islamic State group fighter lost her legal battle on Wednesday to reverse the decision.

A special tribunal said there were insufficient grounds to reinstate Shamima Begum's citizenship. UK authorities stripped her of her British citizenship after she joined the "Islamic State" terror group in 2015.

Shamima Begum, who was stripped of her British citizenship after joining Islamic State in Syria will on Wednesday find out if she has won her legal battle to reverse the decision.

Begum was just 15 when she went to Syria to marry an ISIS fighter, but a judge found "insufficient" evidence she should be treated as a victim of exploitation rather than a threat.

Today's ruling is likely to be appealed, though this was not immediately confirmed
