The Southeast Asian electronics manufacturing hub already hosts US giant Intels largest semiconductor packaging and testing plant worldwide and is home to several chip designing software firms. It is working on a strategy to attract more semiconductor investment, including from foundries, which focus on manufacturing chips.

Semiconductor: Meetings with half a dozen US chip firms took place in recent weeks, including with fab operators, Vu Tu Thanh, head of the Vietnam office of the US-ASEAN Business Council, told Reuters. He declined to identify the firms because talks were still at a preliminary stage.

The ongoing trade war between the US and China, along with sanctions on Russian exports including the noble gases used in microchip manufacture, have led to supply shortages for the ever-growing tech industry.

This partnership entails Synopsys’s support for the establishment of a chip design incubation centre by NIC.

Synopsys has announced a collaboration with the Authority of ICT Industry of Vietnam, under the Ministry of Information and Communications, to advance semiconductor development in Vietnam.
