The official carnival season will have ended a few days before Sinfonia’s first concert of 2023, yet merriment and fun will still ring throughout this program of merry music making. A quintet of French horns from the studio of Chris Komer will share Robert Schumann’s Konzertstück (Concert Piece) for Horns and Orchestra. Donovan Pearce ’23 (certificate in music composition) has written a new work, Sapphire Scherzo that will take the audience on “a spirited journey through shifting worlds of fantasy, playfulness, and light.” In Capriccio Italien Tchaikovsky threads together melodies he heard during Rome’s 1880 carnival season. The concert will also include a tribute to the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine: Miroslaw Skoryk’s “Melody” in a version for full orchestra.
