A local historical society that has been instrumental in protecting historic buildings in Bayside is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Located at the historic 19th-century Fort Totten, Bayside Historical Society (BHS) has been preserving and promoting local history for the past 60 years, advocating for the protection of iconic buildings in the area.

The Aiken City Council could give the final approvals to a development to be built off the yet-to-be-built Powderhouse Connector. On the agenda for the 7 p.m. Monday council meeting are the second and final reading of ordinances annexing and zoning 125.35 acres of property east of Whiskey Road s intersection with Oak Grove Road and East Gate Drive.
The Parker s Kitchen being constructed on the former Dick Smith property west of Aiken is eight weeks from opening and the store may get a bigger sign than allowed by Aiken s zoning ordinance. The Aiken Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the Aiken City Council approve a waiver to allow the store to have a sign that is 100 square feet in size along the Jefferson Davis Highway (US Routes 1/78).
