ROCHESTER There wasn’t much in the way of passing Annual Town Meeting articles on May 24.
Every agenda item at Rochester’s Town Meeting, held at Rochester Memorial School, was passed with little discussion.
Voters at the meeting passed the town’s $22.9 million overall operating budget an increase of $350,000 over the Fiscal Year 2021 with no discussion.
“What a difference a year makes,” Finance Committee Chair Kristian Stoltenburg said in a budget explanation before the meeting’s opening, noting the committee recommendations for the budget indicated “a growing sense of normalcy and optimism unlike last year.”
ROCHESTER A week of voting in Rochester starts today with Town Meeting.
The Annual Town Meeting, open to all registered Rochester voters, will start at 7 p.m.at Rochester Memorial School.
Voters will decide whether to spend a total of $201,190 on various capital plan items: a 10-wheel and six-wheel dump truck, poured flooring for the highway barn, updated technology and a new alarm system at Rochester Memorial School, irrigation for the Rochester Memorial playing field, and air conditioning and electrical improvements at the Council on Aging.

Rochester and Mattapoisett both reached higher covid risk designations, while Marion shifted down to “gray” in state data released May 6.
Rochester reported eight new cases in the week leading up to May 6, down from 18 the week before. However, the town’s total ongoing case count was enough to shift the town from a “yellow” to “red” designation.
In Mattapoisett, 17 new cases were reported between April 29 and May 6, an increase of nine from the week before. The town also shifted from “green” to “yellow.”
Marion, However, saw both a decrease in new cases and a lowering fo status. The town reported no new cases the week leading to May 6, and shifted from “green” to “gray.”
