Potato retail sales increased in dollar sales by 17.2 percent but decreased in volume sales by 1.3 percent from October through December 2022 compared to the same time frame a year ago. Despite a slight decrease, volume sales remain above pre-pandemic levels.

Miller brings 16 years of experience in the produce industry, specializing in category management and procurement. She has worked primarily on the retailer side, both at Food Lion and The Fresh Market, forming relationships with leading produce companies and growers.

The North Carolina Sweetpotato Commission Inc. is a nonprofit corporation made up of more than 400 sweetpotato growers along with the packers, processors and business associates that support them. “The sole purpose of the commission is to increase sweetpotato consumption through education, promotional activities, research and honorable horticultural practices among its producers,” said Michelle Grainger, executive director of the commission.
