A high-stakes game against a powerhouse club at a storied venue.
That’s what the Portland Timbers face in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals as they visit Club América at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday night in Mexico City. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. (TV on Fox Sports 1).
VIGO: Celta Vigo beat Levante 2-0 in the La Liga on Friday, dealing the visitors a fourth consecutive loss.
Brais Mndez struck in the 51st minute when the midfielder chipped a pass by Iago Aspas to gently lift it around goalkeeper Daniel Crdenas.
Aspas had to be substituted because of an apparent leg injury shortly after the opener. His substitute Augusto Solari put the result beyond doubt in the 74th when he finished off a team buildup by rifling in a cross from Aarn Martn.
Celta also lost Renato Tapia and Jeison Murillo to apparent leg injuries.
Celta, who are in the relegation zone when coach Eduardo Coudet took over in November, moved into ninth place.

The Timbers knew Wednesday’s match would be difficult.
Never before had the Timbers reached the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. Their opponent, Club América, is a powerhouse in Mexican soccer. And their home-field advantage would be small, because of a limited crowd and a contingent of Club América fans at Providence Park.
In that sense, a dramatic come-from-behind 1-1 draw Wednesday may feel like something closer to a win for the Timbers, who now head to Mexico to face América again to determine who advances to the Champions League semifinals.
