CALGARY - The Western Hockey League says Wenatchee Wild head coach Kevin Constantine has been suspended pending an independent investigation into alleged violations of WHL regulations and policies.

Akim Aliu says the hiring of former Flames head coach Bill Peters by the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes on Wednesday resulted in a “difficult day” for the former player. Peters, who has completed an anti-racism training and coaching certification program, says he hasn’t reached out to Aliu after being accused of anti-Black racism, but hopes to soon issue “a heartfelt apology” to Aliu personally. LETHBRIDGE, Alberta (AP) — Bill Peters has been hired as the coach of the Western Hockey League’s Lethbridge Hurricanes. It emerged four years ago that he directed racial slurs at a player while working in the minors.

Bill Peters has been named the new head coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Peters has coached every level of men's hockey, including the WHL, NHL and internationally for Canada.

Bill Peters is being given a second chance by the Lethbridge Hurricanes, but not by the former player who was the target of his racism.

Akim Aliu "smelled something funny" last week when a current NHL head coach reached out to try and broker an apology between him and Bill Peters.

Akim Aliu said Peters "dropped the N bomb several times towards me in the dressing room in my rookie year" because of his music.
