Coming up in Hawaii’s construction industry as apprentices, drywaller Trisha Taketa and carpenter Vaneza Austria were usually the only women on their job sites where they received side glances from older, male construction workers.
Pacific Resource Partnership, in collaboration with the Hawai‘i Regional Council of Carpenters, announces a new mentorship program that will help men and women gain the skills and instruction they need to become journey-level carpenters as they complete their apprenticeship training in carpentry, drywall, and millwright.
More than 180 men and women celebrated becoming professional carpenters also known as journeymen. The group consists of 183 new journeymen – 160 carpenters, 21 drywall workers, and one millwright.
