Venezuela said Wednesday it had seized control of a prison from the hands of a powerful gang with international reach, in a major operation involving 11,000 members of its security forces.

Tocoron prison served as Tren de Aragua gang’s HQ, where it had installed amenities such as a zoo and a pool.

The Tocoron prison had served as the headquarters for Tren de Aragua, Venezuela’s most powerful local gang.

Tocoron prison in Aragua has served as Tren de Aragua gang’s headquarters

Venezuela announced on Wednesday that it successfully regained control of a prison that was under the control of a powerful gang with international connections.

Inmates at Venezuela's Tocoron Prison, which was controlled by a gang, enjoyed a host of facilities before 11,000 troops took back control.
