Women now head both major political parties in Hamilton County following elections last weekend.
Dayna Colbert, 31, was elected chairwoman of the Democratic Party Saturday and Laura Campbell was re-elected to head the Republican Party.
Campbell, a Carmel City Council member, has served as chairwoman of the Republican Party since 2016. She defeated Fishers resident Paul Hevesy.
Colbert has led the Hamilton County Young Democrats since 2017, building it from a few members to about 30 now. She is the first Black woman to hold the party chair.
She replaces Joe Weingarten, who stepped down after four years and had helped make Democrats competitive in several local races.
