near the overpass to a 92 after 6:00 a.m. police believe the man was jaywalking when two cars struck him. the second car didn t stop. officers eventually located the car and driver after the accident. both drivers are cooperating with authorities. the accident closed the street as well as ramps to highway 92 for a couple of hours during the morning commute. the victim s identity has not yet been released. what a terrible tragedy for a bay area father. the father of a young man who police say was killed over a video game console tells nbc 7 news his son was home from college for thanksgiving break like so many young people. he was shot as he sat in his car in san francisco s bayview district sunday afternoon. he sold his playstation 4 on line and went to get money from the buyer. instead, police say the buyer refused to pay, got into an argument, and shot him. the student attended santa monica city college and of the youngest among his two siblings. that s my baby child. i
every time the phone rings, is another chance that sparky holland may save a life. a child s life. we re dealing with teenagers often who are calling who really are desperate for help. reporter: help to get away from physical and sexual abuse. harland says here at the center in santa clara where she s ceo, there are 38,000 calls to the hotline each year and 100% response rate from the three to four people answering the phones. for us, it s like being a fire or police station, you answer though calls. reporter: the county s hotline is is staffed by about 18 people on each shift answering fewer yearly calls, the county hotline only answered 50% to 60% of its calls. if the call isn t answered, will that neighbor report again? probably not. that s probably it. there s one chance to get some of these calls. reporter: bruce is the top department head overseeing the county hotline. he says the reason for the poor response rate was staffing. was there ever any communica
