Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike called Tuesday for new scrutiny of a nearly decade-old decision by federal regulators not to sue Google over alleged antitrust violations, in light of hundreds of pages of case documents newly unearthed by POLITICO. The findings from the Federal Trade Commission’s 2011-2013 investigation into Google’s dominance of the search market prompted calls for hearings over the agency’s decision and stronger efforts to rein in large tech companies today. Some Republicans also used the issue to take a shot at former President Barack Obama, who had appointed four of the five commissioners who voted unanimously to close the case.
