12,500 commuters travelled on the extended sections from Phugewadi to Shivajinagar and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic in six hours after MahaMetro opened full-fledged services.

Since last year when the Pune Metro service flagged off, it would have an average ridership of 4,000 daily when it operated trains from the Pimpri to Phugewadi stretch and from Vanaz to Garware College.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two extended lines on the Pune Metro to improve public transport, according to a speech at the event. Modi also criticised Karnataka States government for failing to support the IT hub of Bengaluru and for making negative impacts in Maharashtras neighbouring state. He accused Karnataka States government of withdrawing money from the treasury for selfish reasons, questioning the future of young people in the state.

Modi was speaking in Pune after inaugurating two extended stretches of the city’s Metro train network. He also handed over keys to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress-led governments in Karnataka and Rajasthan for their handling of development projects and emptying state coffers. He also acknowledged the realignment of political forces in Maharashtra after the NCP faction joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government. Modi made these remarks during his visit to Pune to launch the second phase of the Pune Metro rail, hand over homes under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana, and inaugurate a waste-to-energy plant.
