Public Health England data made available last night shows where in the region case rates are at the lowest. Out of those 46 which have all recorded an infection rate of fewer than 100 cases per 100,000 people, five are considered to have suppressed the virus. Postcodes including Newton Aycliffe West, Gilesgate and Old Durham have all recorded fewer than two Covid cases meaning they are not flagged by Public Health England.

Latest Public Health England data, published on February 2, shows where exactly cases are up and down as we mark the first month in the third lockdown. The figures, which show the picture in the seven days to January 30, compared to January 13, has revealed where exactly cases have surged. Across County Durham, Darlington, Teesside and North Yorkshire, some areas have seen a huge spike with cases doubling in the space of a week.
