OTHELLO – Friday evening’s annual Greater Othello Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet went very well, Chamber Manager Jackie Wilhelm said. The event is the chamber’s only fundraiser each year and is also a chance to honor annual community award recipients.
TACOMA – Both the Othello boys and girls wrestling teams left the Tacoma Dome with hardware on Saturday, with the boys taking second in the 2A classification and the girls taking fourth in the 2A/1A/B Girls classification.
OTHELLO — Coming off of back-to-back years as the third-place team in the 2A Mat Classic, the Huskies are seeking yet another high finish at this year’s edition of the state tournament.
COLUMBIA BASIN – District wrestling competitions were held across the state last Friday and Saturday, with local teams looking to advance their wrestlers to this weekend’s regional competitions.
OTHELLO — The Othello Huskies clinched their second straight Central Washington Athletic Conference title with last week’s win over Ephrata, defeating the Tigers 70-6 in the final dual meet of the season.
OTHELLO – The Huskies picked up wins against Prosser and West Valley (Spokane) to improve to 6-1 in duals this winter, defeating the Mustangs 66-6 before taking down the Eagles 45-21 to close the night.
MOSES LAKE – It took until the final matches to decide the outcome of Wednesday’s dual between Moses Lake and Othello, with the Huskies winning four of the final five matches to take a 38-28 win.
COLUMBIA BASIN — It was a busy Saturday on wrestling mats across the Columbia Basin, with the Othello boys, Warden girls and Royal girls all hosting wrestling tournaments this past weekend.
Saturday’s tournament was the first year that the Knights have hosted a girls wrestling tournament, Head Coach Jesus Carlos Villa said.
“It was nice, just an idea that we threw out there,” he said. “We’ve had our boy’s Christmas tournament for several years, and we know that it gets tough for family and friends to support their kids, so what better opportunity than to host a tournament? Have people come out to see what the girls have been doing.”
OTHELLO – After back-to-back seasons placing third in the 2A Boys Mat Classic, the Othello Huskies bring in a team of 75 wrestlers into the 2023-24 season, aiming for yet another high finish at the state tournament.
