POLK COUNTY, Fla. – School leaders in Polk County have voted to drop all masking requirements for students and staff in the district.
The school board made the decision Tuesday night in a unanimous vote, according to a news release. The new rules take effect Wednesday and state that face coverings are no longer required in Polk County Public Schools buildings, offices or buses, the district said.

Marion County students will no longer be required to wear masks or face coverings starting June 1 after a unanimous vote from its school board. Students who wish to continue wearing masks can do so but school district officials say teachers, bus drivers and cafeteria staff will not be enforcing mask wearing.
