Harrowing story of Iron Duke dam collapse

Events of January 31, 2021 will forever be embedded in the memories of the Iron Duke community as they witnessed the last moments of two youthful friends, Evidence Chipadze (24) and Godknows Mudavanhu (21) who were having “Kodak moments” on a bridge oblivious of the danger that was lurking.
The pair was swept away moments later after the collapse of Iron Duke’s Kent 1 and Kent 2 dams, which caused flooding downstream.
Like any youths their age, the pair could not pass up an opportunity to see the spectacular view of water flowing over Iron Duke bridge.

Government will this year acquire 3 000 tractors from the John Deere and Belarus schemes to meet the country’s requirement of between 12 000 and 15 000 as it continues to intensify the farm mechanisation programme, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka has said.
The scheme will also provide for 100 combine harvesters before the end of this year’s farming season.
Government entered into a US$50 million deal with global tractor manufacturer John Deere in November 2018, which will see the company supplying 1 300 tractors, 80 combine harvesters and other related agricultural equipment.
The deal was signed following President Mnangagwa’s engagement with John Deere Agriculture Worldwide president Mr Mark von Pentz who expressed his willingness to partner Government in boosting the agriculture sector through mechanisation.
