1. Pirates: Henry Davis, C, Louisville We knew the Pirates were going to take a position player, but we didnt know which one. Instead of opting for one of the elite high school shortstops they were rumored to be targeting, such as Marcelo Mayer, they went with the best college position player available in Davis. Hes got a chance to hit for power and average and has a rocket arm. His receiving needs work, and it will be interesting to see if the Pirates develop him as a catcher or move him to th...

Heres what you need to know about what happened in the first round. Henry Davis goes No. 1 • Davis is only the seventh catcher in history to be drafted No. 1 overall. Its difficult to move the needle much this late in the calendar, but there have been several pitching performances of note. Jack Leiter reinforced his status as the best college arm available by striking out 15 in eight innings in a 1-0 loss to North Carolina State, but fellow Vanderbilt right-hander Kumar Rocker created some uncertainty by t...

If the Draft hadn't moved to July 11-13, it would have concluded Wednesday with rounds 11 through 20. Instead of the certainty of knowing which teams selected which players, there's still a lot of uncertainty about what will transpire a month from now. Teams haven't held meetings to set their

Normally at this time of year, with college conference tournaments just completed and high school seasons nearly over, we’d be in full-on Draft fever/panic mode, trying to get one of our last mocks correct right before the Draft started. So it’s been hard to tell that muscle memory to take

The 6-foot-6 right-hander was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 40th round (No. 1,189 overall) of the 2018 MLB Draft, but opted to play college ball instead. He’s made 12 starts in 2021, going 3-5 with a 4.24 ERA. In 70 innings he’s struck out 108 batters (13.9 SO/9). Here’s a...
