Fort Polk celebrates courthouse dedication ceremony Maj. NORBERTO O. DALUZ OSJA military justice chief On the morning of April 21, the Fort Polk Office of the Staff Judge Advocate named and dedicated the Fort Polk Courthouse after Sgt. Maj. Howard Metcalf. Metcalf served as the 8th Regimental Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from Feb. 17, 1998, until his retirement in 2002. He passed away in November 2019 at the age of 72. The Fort Polk Courthouse Naming and Dedication ceremony was held in conjunction with Fort Polk’s 80th Anniversary and in the spirit of recognizing excellence within the ranks of the U.S. Army.

Leesville City Council met yesterday at 3:00. Councilman Shapkoff was absent. Per the financial report the city is 75% of the way through the fiscal year, Revenue is at 84% and Expenditures are at 69%. Monthly bills were listed as $21,778.81. Pay requests were approved for a total amount of $4,414.70. Fort Polk Garrison Commander Ryan Roseberry addressed the Council on issues of Quality of Life improvements, anticipated budget cuts and hurricane recovery efforts. Regardless of what the states declares, Fort Polk will maintain the mask mandate until further notice. Freedom Fest this year will be held at Honor Field. Mayor Rick Allen signed a proclamation renaming a portion of Red Town Road as Rev. Dr. Harrison Fields, Sr, Memorial Road. A dedication was held at 4:00 p.m.

Alexandria Airport adds flight to Charlotte Douglas JRTC and Fort Polk Civilians, solders, and families will soon have an expanded choice of airline service from Alexandria International Airport as American Airlines includes a non-stop flight to Charlotte Douglas International airport in Charlotte, North Carolina. The new, daily service begins April 2. Passengers can begin booking flights on the new route beginning Monday. “This added service is a significant plus for the Fort Polk community with a non-stop daily flight to Charlotte – a major hub for the Eastern seaboard. This will make travel to that area less stressful and provides another flight option for our Soldiers and Family members,” said Col. Ryan Roseberry, Fort Polk’s garrison commander.
