WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. â In the series-closing doubleheader, Purdue softball (15-25) split the day with Northwestern (26-14), taking the first game in a 1-0 shutout, before falling 1-0 in the second.
The pair of games came on Senior Day, where the program honored Sydney Bates and Ryleigh Scott, who closed out their time in Bittinger with a split series with the Wildcats (2-2).
Pitcher Ashley Peters led Purdue to its fourth shutout of the season and her second complete-game shutout of 2021. The winning run was recorded by freshman Kiley Goff, thanks to an RBI by the designated player Alex Echazarreta.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) A Purdue softball (14-24) doubleheader versus Northwestern (25-13) ended with a split after the Boilermakers took Game One, 7-3 before dropping the second, 3-2.
Left-handed pitcher Ashley Peters recorded the win in Game One, moving to 4-6 overall this season after entering in the second inning. Meanwhile, the complete game effort by senior Sydney Bates to close out the day moved her to an even 6-6 record.

Purdue softball (13-23) continued its hot streak after sweeping yesterday s doubleheader to close out the series with Ohio State (18-17), with three straight wins and a final series record of 3-1.
Pitcher Savanah Henley tossed 4.1 innings before Sydney Bates entered the circle in relief in the top of the fifth. Henley (4-7) notched a pair of strikeouts in the win.
Hella Meta Stokes (Goertz) of Prince Frederick, MD passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Hella was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Hella was born April 22, 1940 in Oldenburg, Germany to Kurt and Ella Goertz. She was the youngest of four children.
Hella came to the United States in 1960 and married the love of her life, Larry A. Stokes. Together they had three children: Larry, Raymond, and Catherine, whom they raised in Cheverly, MD. Hella had various jobs throughout her life, but she felt her most important ones were being a wife and a mother. In December 1991, her life changed when her husband passed away suddenly. Hella was a strong woman who adjusted to her new life with courage and determination. In 2002, Hella moved to her new home at Chapline House in Prince Frederick, MD.
